Can't zoom in in Maps Satellite view under 2.2 1 Month ago
|
|
|
Since the coming of StreetView, I cannot zoom in in Satellite view under 2.2 and even just loading a Satellite or Hybrid view usually stalls. StreetView is fine but I need to be able to get a bird's eye view as well.
I am using WiFi.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Any solution?

I've got the opposite problem.
I can't get StreetView (or I can but I haven't worked it out yet) but I can zoom.

After just having said that I found out how to do it.
Never thought of doing it via the Pin Drop.
Would be nice to have a standard button to kick it off.

So, lowededwookie, does your zooming in hybrid or satellite mode work as fast as before? No stalling?

It seems to be.
I'm using WiFi so it's pretty quick. That being said StreetView can take a bit of downloading even on WiFi.

I am not sure we are discussing the same issue. I have no problem with Street View on my iPhone. My problem is with the "ordinary" bird's eye satellite and hybrid views. They stall and even if a full screen loads, I cannot zoom in.
I do not have this problem with the ordinary map view, only the satellite and hybrid views. What is your experience with them?

I'm having no issue....on wi-fi and can go to anywhere on a map, change to satellite or hybrid fine.

rogerxnz, this may do nothing to help but I'd recommend trying the following; In the Maps app on your iPhone, hold down the Home button for about 10 seconds or until the app quits. Then hold both the Home and Sleep/Wake button down together for about 10 seconds until your iPhone has shut down, and begins restarting.
Hopefully that may help fix it.

Thank you, Cuby. I tried what you suggested and it made a great difference for one search but things slowed again for a search in Wellington CBD.
I have read about forcing applications to quit to cure problems. Should I do that with all my 80 or so apps?
I have about 5 apps which use gps, including two running tracking programs and two speed camera apps. Maybe I should do those first?

Yeah, it might be a good idea, although I don't think those other third party applications will be using up any RAM as Apple only allows 1 application to be open at a time. However, that's with the exception of Safari, Mail, and iPod default apps, so it might be a good idea to force quit those (although the restart should have quit them anyway).
Another issue may just be the fact that you've overloaded your iPhone, but I could be completely wrong. As I'm well aware, it's very easy to quickly fill up the iPhone or iPod Touch with dozens of various apps (I now have almost 7 full screens), but if you can it may be a good idea to cut out the useless ones that you never or rarely use.
Hope that helps.
