Cracks in my iPhone 3G 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Has anyone had any experience of their iPhone developing cracks?

After only six weeks of a completely pampered existence, both my wife's and my iPhones have developed cracks around the headphone jack / dock connector / top right hand corners. Never been so much as dropped on the sofa let alone anything hard so I'm really disappointed.

Called Vodafone and they heavily suggested it would be my fault but have to take it in to get their verdict! I already feel a battle ahead which quite frankly I can do without. Trouble is you can't just go to an Apple Store in NZ.

I've read lots of stories online of this issue in other countries (with inconsistent outcomes) but was interested to hear of any examples in NZ.

Any thoughts or help would be great.

That's the part that worries me the most! And please let us know how you get on. They are in denial if they say it's just you. You are right in saying there are posts about it around the net and here....

I hope others might post so they can confirm it's an issue.

UPDATE:

Great news - managed to get my cracked iPhones replaced & with no hassle.

Took both iPhones back to Vodafone St Luke's (very helpful) and they suggested it was quickest for me to take them directly to their service agent MobilefoneRepair. So did that yesterday and they simply scanned them and sent the scans off to Apple in Sydney for a decision. Got a call this am saying that Apple have replaced them and to come and collect.

Everyone in the process (apart from the Vodafone 'specialist' iPhone telephone rep) was very helpful and clearly, these types of non user-inflicted cracks have been fairly common.

Fingers-crossed that these new ones don't go the same way!

Scanned them? As in their barcodes/serials or an image scan?

I understood it to be a image scan (ie a photo) so they could send it with the report to Apple in Oz. Clearly they don't have authority to replace any iPhone without the nod from Oz.

Yeah, thought so. Just wanted to confirm. Glad they acted so promptly.

One of each. Both had developed cracks around the headphone socket and the white one also had a crack in one of the corners.
