Buying a standard Apple Dock and a case for my iPhone 3G, I realised my dilemma almost immediately....with the case on, I couldn't use the standard dock. So, I bought the universal dock and I think it is the only one I would consider in the future. It comes with so many adaptors that I'm fairly confident I'll be OK in the future.

At the same time, good cases like the one I bought, come with their own adaptor that you can slip into the universal dock, so that you're not forever taking your iPhone out of its case. It's a very nice touch from the case manufacturer, and you can see the dock, black adaptor (black I assume so I don't confuse it with the Apple supplied adaptors) and my iPhone (in its case) in one of the images here. The adaptor neatly clipped into the universal dock and it is all go.

The remote is also a really nice feature and with the connection to the audio of my stereo, I'm starting to wonder if I am truly ever going to be reaching for my CDs again?!
