I've been working with Apple's since the MacPlus was around. I've been developing programs for all sorts of NZ based companies over the years from individuals and small companies right up to large corporations.
I've always had a leaning to information presentation and had a significant part in many high profile solutions seen in print, TV and many public places and tourists attractions. I developed on the Newton when that was the coolest thing out too, but when the iPhone was out in the US, I knew I had to have one.
A good friend of mine in the US waited in a long queue on the day they came out, then couriered the device over to me. It was a while before there were solutions to even use it as a phone over here, but once the SDK eventually was out, I knew my dream platform had arrived.
I put together a few apps in my spare time that I mainly wanted for myself, and put them up on the app store back when it launched about a year ago. At one point those two apps held the #1 and #2 spots on the best sellers here, so it soon became clear I could make a living out this new world. I left my job I had been at for the previous 12 years and formed Orsome Software.
I have released just a few more apps of my own since then, but I have been bombarded with opportunities along the way. I have been working with AIM Proximity, a leading advertising company here and have a number of apps in development that I'm sure will be popular when they do ship. We released the companion app for the launch of TePapa's Our Space promotion last year, and the uArt app for Gillette has been well received too.
I guess Orsome's claim to fame would have to be BubbleWrap. Its still in the top 25 free apps in most countries and has had well over five million downloads to date. Its sister app 'BubblePRO' costs $1, but has 1000's of dollars of prize money given out to the top score in regular promotions. ( See www.orsome.co.nz for details )
I like to think our apps are the sort you want to keep coming back to. I think a good app should do one thing well. I'm all for having fewer features if it makes things more streamlined. We're very excited about this cool platform, and really looking forward to doing more with it going forward.
