At the end of today's iPhone 4 press conference was the news that the iPhone 4 will go on sale on July 30 in New Zealand. Undoubtedly the phone will be available both the online Apple Store, Vodafone and other resellers. It's great news for those wanting to get their hands on the new phone and does finally meet Apple's promise of a July date. It should also be noted that the white iPhone 4 will also go on sale at this time.

Kicking of a press conference with a YouTube clip ridiculing the iPhone antenna issue and people's response to it seemed out of place for Apple, but so did the whole press event (which can now be viewed here), where Apple did (and didn't) admit issues with the iPhone 4. They're not perfect and phones aren't perfect. They did admit there were issues and have offered some reparation to iPhone users (in the forum of free bumpers or refunds to those who have purchased a bumper already) but they fought back showing that this issue isn't only on their new phone and have indeed posted a section of their website about antenna issues (see http://www.apple.com/antenna/). Perhaps the most interesting snippet from these pages is the comment at the bottom of this page where it states that "Phone 4 was field-tested in nearly every possible coverage scenario across different vendor and carrier equipment all over the world". Does this mean the iPhone 4 visited New Zealand before its release!?

Apple have released a minor update for the iOS 4 which notably fixes an issue with how the display of signal strength is calculated and displayed. This follows on from a letter that Apple publicly posted on its website concerning this issue and ahead of a press conference that Apple has called for the next 24 hours. Speculation is that the press conference is to discuss the dropped calls issues with the iPhone 4 antenna.

Apple have released an OS update for the iPad, taking it to version 3.2.1. The update fixes Wi-Fi connectivity, an issue that stops the copy/paste of single-page PDFs in Mail, addresses issues that causes video playback to freeze, improves reliability involving the video-out using the iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter and has added Bing to Safari's search options. The update comes ahead of a press conference that is to be held in the next 24 hours in which it is suggested Apple will comment on the antenna issues with the iPhone 4.
