Apple today announced that in less than 48 hours since its launch on Wednesday, more than one million users have joined Ping, its new social network for music which lets users follow their favorite artists and friends to discover what music they're talking about, listening to and downloading.

"One-third of the people who have downloaded iTunes 10 have joined Ping," said Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of Internet Services. "As many more people download iTunes 10 in the coming weeks, we expect the Ping community to continue growing."

Apple have published a page on their website highlighting the fact that the iPad will receive an update to version 4.2 in November and gain parity with many of the features available on the iPhone and iPod Touch. Other features promised in this version also include the ability to print to a printer on a wireless network. In the keynote today, Apple announced the release of iOS 4.1 next week for iPhone and iPod Touch users, and that, in an update to come out in November, the iPad will be included to update the product range to iOS version 4.2 and bring parity in many respects across all iDevices.

Apple today introduced iTunes 10 with Ping, a new music-oriented social network for following your favourite artists and friends to discover what music they're talking about, listening to and downloading. iTunes Ping lets you post your thoughts and opinions, your favourite albums and songs, the music you've downloaded from iTunes and tell your friends which concerts you plan to attend.
