Despite what Steve Ballmer might have said (or laughed at) when the iPhone was first announced, the iPhone has rapidly surpassed smartphones running Windows Mobile to become the third largest smartphones vendor, according to Gartner. AppleInsider have an excellent breakdown of the research, but there is no denying that Apple's iPhone has captured far more of the market than many analysts were prepared to predict.
