cnet appears to have the scoop on the iPhone version of Skype, stating that it is likely to be released on Wednesday (NZ time). In a review of the application, they note some missing features (compared to the desktop system) and some iPhone-only features, notably that the interface is more iPhone-like than Skype-like.
Calls on Skype on work when you are connected to a wifi connection. Calls will not work over the phone network, although chatting will. Conference calls are imperfect (you can't initiate one, but can accept one) but it appears this will be resolved in time.
