The latest build of WebKit (effectively engine upon which many browsers are or will be built) has released demos that show the functionality that will be available soon. For those not using a browser that uses WebKit explicitly, the iPhone provides an opportunity to explore the potential new features. MacRumors discusses the news and provides a link to the best examples, such as the falling leaves animation.

The falling leaves animation - http://webkit.org/blog-files/leaves/index.html - looks incredible in Safari 4 beta!!! Most impressive for CSS!

I'm dismantling the code to see how the CSS is done but it actually doesn't look as complex as it sounds.

It is hoped that this will reduce the need for Flash which suits Apple's plans perfectly.

I still desperately want to see Flash on the iPhone, as we have a Flash based web-conferencing system that would be cool to connect via the iPhone with.
