From the 2Degrees Blog - Proposed pricing an improvement as 2degrees investment continues

Lower mobile termination rates proposed this morning by the Commerce Commission will improve competition for the benefit of all mobile users.

2degrees Chief Executive Eric Hertz says the Commission should be applauded for its preliminary view that the prices networks charge each other for calls should be reduced quickly.

"More realistic pricing, as proposed today, underpins the approach 2degrees has taken to mobile in New Zealand from day one," says Mr Hertz.

"Better pricing of these wholesale charges will directly benefit consumers. It supports our moves to make smartphones affordable for all New Zealanders and the introduction of game-changing plans such as the '0c plan' for national mobile and landline calls," he says.

"In the coming year, as we open more stores and invest further in our network, this proposed lower wholesale pricing will certainly help us to continue to provide compelling offers to customers."

Mr Hertz says 2degrees will be engaging closely with the Commission in the New Year. In the next stage of the mobile termination rates process, 2degrees will highlight the problems faced by the one-third of mobile consumers who currently need two mobile handsets.
