2degrees has today unveiled true value, flexibility and freedom for Kiwi mobile phone users, as the company formally launches New Zealand's newest mobile phone network.

2degrees has announced formidably low market rates with no contractual commitment. In particular, 2degrees offers a no contract 'Pay Now' service with call and text rates half the headline price that Vodafone and Telecom offer their pre-pay customers. Plus 2degrees' rates are valid anytime of the day and week.

In addition, 2degrees allows consumers to call friends and family in 21 selected countries, and pay between a half and one third of the current headline rates, as well as the ability to call local landlines for half of the current headline rates.

Eric Hertz CEO of 2degrees says "the 2degrees no contract 'Pay Now' service means that there's no more deciphering complicated plans, no commitment to a minimum spend, no need to pay for airtime never used, and no contracts."

"With our any network, anytime value, mobile users are no longer restricted as to who they call, when or on what network. 2degrees truly offers New Zealanders the chance to stay 2degrees," he said.

A new online portal will give 2degrees customers the ability to access their calling information online, a service not currently offered to those without monthly contracts on competitors networks. Topping up will be easy and rewarding. Rewards of reduced airtime rates and free text messages are all part of the deal for top-ups.

"If you're thinking of switching companies and you are afraid that you'll lose your number, don't be. You can port your current mobile number over to 2degrees and we'll even give you $5 of credit," he said.

2degrees customers will be able to top-up from over 6,300 locations, top-up and pick up a SIM from 2,500 locations and get a top-up, SIM and handset from over 340 stores.

Topping-up is easy and can be done via traditional voucher, credit card, debit card, online at www.2degreesmobile.co.nz , or by a no-charge call from your mobile phone.

The other networks offer all sorts of complicated prepaid bundles, on and off-net prices, and special offers. These can be difficult to understand and make it hard to work out the cost of many calls. Here's a comparison of our rates to Vodafone's and Telecom's prepaid headline rates:

Two important answers from the 2degreesmobile.com site's FAQ...

Can I use my 3G phone on 2degrees?
At this stage 2degrees have not enabled their 3G network. However you'll find most 3G handsets are 900MHz GSM enabled and will work on our network.

Can I use my iPhone on 2degrees?
Yes. Be aware that some internationally imported iPhones maybe locked to a foreign network. After you've inserted your 2degrees SIM and switched on the iPhone, go to Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network > and set the APN to 'internet'. Leave Username and Password blank.
