You'll all remember my little article not too long ago on a few reasons why you should Jailbreak your iDevice. To be frank, after reading it again, it just wasn't comprehensive enough. Those apps on there are all great, and they're all must haves, but there's more. Heaps more. And that's where this article steps in, to show some more of the brilliant things you can do if you break out of the Apple garden and see how green the grass really is on the other side of the fence.

iLock gives us users the ability to unlock our device how we want to. Gone are the days of "Swipe to unlock". Now you can choose to unlock it by swiping in a pattern using a group of nodes. Why would you want to do this? Well, I didn't like that anyone could get into my phone, but hated the password setting - I found it just took too long. With iLock, you can select your desired pattern, and after a few goes it'll feel like second nature to you. And if you happen to fall off your bike and have a spot of amnesia, you can always input the optional extra password to bypass the swipe thing. Provided you can still remember your password after the amnesia. But what I've mentioned only scratches the surface of what iLock is great for, and it'll only get better with the upcoming release of an SDK that will allow plug-ins to be made to make this brilliant app even more functional. $1.99 from the Cydia store.

Lockinfo puts useful information on your lock screen, right where you need it. You can check almost anything, from whether you have an email, to missed calls, to text messages, even check your calendar. It does all that without taking up much room, and fits perfectly with iLock. There's an enormous amount of plugins available for this, as well as themes, so you can customize to your hearts content. I find it far superior to apps like Intelliscreen, but hey, that's just me. Free from the Cydia store.

MyWi lets users create Wi-Fi hotspots from there own 3G reception. Really useful when you have more than one laptop that needs connecting, and only one iPhone. Not to mention how simple it is to set up. Really not a whole lot more to say about it, apart from that it's brilliant, quick, useful, and an absolute must have for anyone with a JB'd device. Oh, and yeah, I have heard that Apple added something similar with iOS 4.3, but that doesn't diminish that this is a superb app. Apparently much more useful than Apple's version. I can't really comment on that, since I'm Jailbroken I'm still on 4.2.1, but what I can say is you won't regret buying this app. But you may have to save for a bit, as it's a hefty $19.99 from the Cydia store. There is a free trial though, so you don't have to jump right in.

3G Unrestrictor unrestricts your 3G. Yeah, I know, you'd never have guessed, eh? For those who don't already know, or haven't already guessed, this app removes all the restrictions that Apple so kindly placed on 3G usage. For example, you want to download an app, but can't, because it's 20.6 MB. With 3G Unrestrictor, you can choose which apps you want to be able to use over 3G, like Facetime, or the App Store, or Doodle Jumps multiplayer. When you pair this app with an app like MyWi, you and your non-3G iPod friends can play against each other on the same Wi-Fi Network, even if you're not around Wi-Fi. They connect to your Wi-Fi hotspot, and you trick the apps into thinking that 3G is Wi-Fi. Genius. $3.99 on the Cydia store.

iFile is the most fully featured file browsing app I've ever come across for an iDevice. You can delve deep into the bowels for your iPhone and edit to your hearts content, although that's not something I'd suggest. Delving into bowels can often have unseemly consequences, particularly if you aren't confident. However, don't let that put you off. When you combine this app with Winterboard, you have a veritable theming beast. You can edit icons, change in-game pictures for apps, just about anything you want. Within reason. Apple still has a few things locked, such as being able to delete songs from the iPod app. Still though, despite the inevitable limitations, it's an uber brilliant app, and belongs on every JB'd iPhone. By the way, don't buy the one from the App Store. Some sneaky person made an app that looks for all intents and purposes to be the same thing. It doesn't do squat though, and I can't work out why Apple approved it. But that's beside the point. You can grab this little gem for $4.00 from Cydia.

And so concludes my second ramble on why you should Jailbreak. Like I said up top, these lists of mine are only my favourites; There are more amazing apps out there, and I'll cover them in the future. For now though, these should satisfy your anti-apple hungerings. Enjoy.
