So I realised after writing my last article that there are probably a few of you wondering how exactly you go about jailbreaking your iGadget. Today I'll be running you through the steps of how to jailbreak an iPhone 4, running iOS 4.2.1. I'm sure the process is extremely similar, if not identical, if you are jailbreaking an iPod Touch, or even an iPad, but as I own neither of those, I can't really comment. So anyway, if you've upgraded to iOS 4.3, you're out of luck for the time being. I'm working on a way to downgrade from 4.3 to 4.2.1, but it's proving difficult. I'll be sure and post an article as soon as I work that out. I'll be using Greenp0ison, the latest version, which changes fairly regularly. A Google search will provide you with the website needed, and then you can download the appropiate installer, there is one for both Mac and Windows. Before I start this though, I feel I should run you through a few of the risks. When I say risks though, I want everyone to know that I have never heard of someone irreparably damaging their iPhone while jailbreaking. iTunes comes with something known as a restore, which means, if you screw up the jailbreaking process, simply plug it into your computer, open iTunes, go to restore, and Bob's your uncle. While jailbreaking isn't foolproof, it's pretty darn close, and like I said - if something goes wrong, simply restore it and try again. Something else that jailbreakings known for is its questionable legality. In the States, it's been classified as legal. I am not sure of the legality over here, but as far as I know, we have a right as an end user to do whatever we like with our iPhone. Piracy is illegal, and not something I condone in any way, but there is a huge difference between piracy and jailbreaking. Apple doesn't like jailbreaking, and their retaliation is to void your warranty. So, it's up to you whether or not you choose to do it. I cannot take any responsibilty for any damage that may incur while you're jailbreaking. Remember, just because I've never heard of any irreparable damage, doesn't mean it couldn't happen. So, on that mildly morbid note, I shall start my step by step walkthrough on how to break free of Apple's restrictions. More info after the break.
Step 1: Download the latest Greenp0ison.
As I said, I'll be using Greenp0ison, as it worked for me without a hitch, and is super easy. A quick search of the universe that is Google will get you a result. The latest at the time of writing is RC6.1
Step 2: Connect your iPhone to the computer.
Pretty straightforward, just connect your iPhone to your PC, and make sure iTunes isn't open. I would strongly suggest backing up your iPhone with a quick sync. Better safe than sorry.
Step 3: Open the Greenp0ison application.
Now don't freak out when you double click this and see some cmd windows open up; that's completely normal. Once that's all finished popping up you'll see the actual Greenp0ison (hereby known as GP, because it's getting annoying typing that) window, and over the top of that another window asking if you are jailbreaking an Apple TV. Hit no, then hit "Prepare to Jailbreak"

Step 4: Follow the onscreen instructions.
After you hit "Prepare to Jailbreak", you'll be greeted with a new window. Follow the instructions TO THE LETTER. Or number, as the case may be. Simply hold the Sleep button (also the button you use to lock your phone, in case you're wondering) for the alotted time, then hold both the Sleep and Home buttons for the time it says, then just hold the Home button. Here's where we deviate from their instructions a bit: When it says release the Home button, don't. Just keep holding it until you see huge amounts of white text show up on your iPhones screen. Trust me. I'm a pro.

Step 5: Keep following on screen instructions.
It'll say something along the lines of "Jailbreak now" or some such thing. Apparently it varies slightly. It will be an extremely obvious command, anyway. After you've pushed the button, you should see a black screen on your iPhone, and then the screeds of white text will start scrolling along. Only then do you release the Home button. Let your phone do it's thing for a while, you should see the GP logo, which is a skull/apple thing. Don't unplug your iPhone until it's back to the lock screen.
Step 6: Install Cydia.
Once you've unlocked your iPhone, go to the last page of your Springboard and you'll see a brand spanking new app called Loader. Open Loader, and follow it's instructions to install Cydia. Read through the information it gives you, it's all worthwhile. Once you've gone through all of this, Cydia will be installed.
Step 7: Pat yourself on the back Install a few Cydia apps.
Congratulations! You've now jailbroken your iPhone! Be sure to check out my previous article for some info on a few of my favourite Cydia apps.
Be sure to let me know if this worked for you, I'd love to hear your success story, and I'm here to help out with any problem that may occur. Remember, if something happens that you're not sure about, it doesn't mean somethings wrong. Leave a comment with your problem, and I'll get you a solution ASAP. We may even set up a sticky in the forum for this type of discussion, depending on what kind of feedback we get.
