NZMac.com

IconThe official app of NZiPhone.com - The home of the iPhone in New Zealand and NZMac.com - Supporting the New Zealand Macintosh community, is here!! Get the FREE app from http://itunes.com/apps/nziphonecomandnzmaccomnews

Get the latest news, forum posts, app listings and reviews, podcasts, video, blog posts and more on your iPod Touch or iPhone, with the ability to read articles whilst offline, without the need for a data connection. Built using the TapLynx iPhone development framework, this application not only keeps you up to date with all that’s happening on NZiPhone.com and NZMac.com, but has the inbuilt ability to let you share what you are reading with friends via email and Twitter.

I'm exceptionally please to be able to provide this app to you all, to access news, forum posts and more from the two sites. Even better, this app does not require you stay online to read any articles that are in the RSS feeds that are linked to...only new items or YouTube clips require an online connection.

Other features in this version include the ability to search downloaded content on your iPod Touch and iPhone, and receive a visual indication as to how many articles have not been read.

The application has been built using the TapLynx iPhone development framework. Thanks to TapLynx for such a superb development tool.

If you are interested in becoming an iPhone developer, I'll be publishing a series of five articles and two YouTube clips over the next 2 weeks related to learning how to use TapLynx and my experience getting on to the App Store.

Enjoy the app. Post any questions or comments about it on this website. I'll also list in the forum about any tweaks to be applied or features that I can hopefully bring into the app in future versions.

Regards, Philip Roy

Eeek! This is all a bit of learning experience for me (and I love that), so I wasn't thinking when I submitted a build of the app with XCode set at iPhone OS 3.1.3...which means if you're not on that you can't use the app.

I'll be submitting a new build to Apple over the weekend.

v1.1 has been submitted to Apple

* Now supports iPhone OS 3.0 and above (instead of just 3.1.3)
* Minor interface colour changes

Hi Phil,

I was just about to send a note about it requiring OS 3.1.3, so glad that is sorted, (my 3GS is still on 3.1.2 and I have no intention of upgrading at the moment) but the other issue I ran into is that the app is not available on the UK iTunes store - and presumably is only available in the NZ store ?

While I understand that this is a New Zealand iPhone site, I'm sure I can't be the only person outside NZ reading the site. (At the very least there must be other iPhone toting NZ expats out there smilies/wink.gif ) Is there a technical reason why the app can't be listed in all countries in iTunes, or just something you didn't consider ?

Regards,
Simon

Hi Guys,

Boy I'm looking like a newbie! Let me explain...I set a release date of 12 Feb...expecting that to be US time...and thought if Apple approved it, I'd be able to get all the material I was putting together ready by then.

Friday was crazy mad at work, so not a good day for it to come out.

So two mistakes....one, the build. No excuse there, that was just silly....and so the new build has been fixed.

I then used Apple's guidelines to test a link to the App to see if it was in the NZ store. The link failed, but on searching, I found it...so in my haste, I published that link...and of course that is NZ-specific and fails for everyone outside of NZ.

The app is worldwide. I just tested UK and Canada, and if you search for "nziphone" you'll find it. Or this link should work for everyone....

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObj...23663&mt=8

Please let me know if that works or else I'm still not thinking straight and need to come up with a better link.

Sorry, and I'll read comments better....I also think it is now in the US store in my testing.
