UPDATE The official release of the iPhone into New Zealand brings with it the ability to bring new functionality to the NZMac.com and NZiPhone.com websites in the form of "web apps". These apps are basically web-based versions of the sites designed specifically to work with the iPod Touch and iPhone. They provide easy access to news and forum posts (and blog posts for NZMac.com) and can be stored as icons on the iPhone/iPod Touch for easy access when you want to check out the site. I have to stress that (using my mantra from the NZmac.com website) that I'm no coder...just a hacker....so these apps are considered "BETA" and are being published for experimental purposes at the moment. I've done the best I can with the new version of Dashcode and whilst I'm very pleased with what I have achieved, I have no doubt that more could be done.
In particular, it would be my dream to see one proper application developed for the sites that included all the RSS feeds for both sites. If you're a coder and willing to develop a true application for iPod Touch and iPhone users, feel free to get in touch. You can access the web applications at the following locations on your iPod Touch and iPhone:
Once you access the website via these web apps, you can navigate the latest news stories and the forum posts. Of course, don't forget with the iPod and iPhone, you have the Safari browser to surf the entire NZMac.com and NZiPhone.com website.
The benefit of using the web apps is that they also have the ability for you to add Home Screen icons onto your iPod Touch and iPhone. Have a look at the Flash animations playing at the bottom of this article, to see how you go about adding quick and easy icons to access from the Home Screen of your iPod/iPhone.
