Ok, just ignore that extremely corny title. I'm tired and couldn't think of anything any more original than that. Tiny Wings, unlike the title, is extremely original, at least among the games I've played. I've got a brief run through of the game, as well as my personal opinion of it. Good or bad, it's all here.
First off, the good. It's gorgeous. That's really the only way to put it, and even that still feels like a bit of an understatement. It has a "Procedural Graphics Engine" which means that each day the levels change both shape, pattern, and colour. This results in each day being a brand new experience, and keeps the game feeling fresh. There's also quite a classy appearance to how the game looks, almost like a sepia photo. But it's not sepia, oh no. There's plenty of colour in this game, but it's not overpowering, nor is it garish. It's quite low key, and there's a textured, almost watercoloured affect to the graphics. A very nice look overall.
Bonus points for Cloud Touches, perfect jumps, and combos give incentive to try again
This game is similar to others in that it starts off simple, and builds in difficulty. It does this quite quickly though, and you'll find yourself stuck on a nest (more on those below) for quite a while before managing to pass it. While this may appeal to some, the difficulty level may be too much for others, and put them off. Still though, this comes down to a personal opinion thing, and I don't really blame the developer for making it get tougher. For me, there wouldn't be much point in playing a game that sat at the same difficulty level the whole way, but I know that idea isn't shared by everyone.
Nests. These are the game's version of trophies, and for each nest is a list of prerequisites required to get that nest. For example, to get Nest #9, you have to reach the 7th island, reach the 4th island without doing a single perfect jump, and be 34 seconds in "Fever" mode. I still can't get past this particular nest, as it's freaking hard, but in general the goals are achievable. I'm sure this one is too, but as I said, the difficulty ramps up pretty quick. On top of the Nests, there's your typical "High score" options, although the more nests you have, the more you score. It's got Game Centre support as well, so you can compare scores with friends.
As far as playability goes, it's super simple. You touch the screen to dive, and let go of the screen to, umm, not dive. You'll understand what I mean once you have a go, and for $1.29, I don't see why you wouldn't want to. This is the perfect game to kill off some time, and while it doesn't have an epic story or spiffy 3D graphics to draw you in, it doesn't need them - it's classy enough on it's own.
I'd like to issue a bit of a challenge to everyone here, I want to see if we can get Tiny Wings up to at least the #5 position on the paid apps list. I think this game deserves it, and I know it's possible, since it's already ousted the mighty Angry Birds once. Just stew over that for a bit, let me know if you reckon it's even possible, or if Angry Birds is going to rule the roost forevermore. Nothing else to say really, apart from that Tiny Wings is one of the classiest, most entertaining games out there, and more than deserves its current place on the paid apps list.
