I'm over in the UK as I write this, and I bought Mobile Maps on sale for $45 NZD before I left New Zealand. At the time, my only reason for doing so was that it was substantially cheaper than TomTom...and still is. That said, I do miss the ease of use I feel the TomTom GPS apps have.

I have two complaints with this app really...firstly, the incredibly painful to use and un-iPhone-like settings interface, that is very confusing and difficult to follow. Secondly, the bug that I discovered that Sygic didn't seem to be aware of. Wanting to plan my routes before I left NZ, I spent time trying to input the addresses of all the friends that I would be visiting into the favourites section. None of the locations would save.

On contacting Sygic, it was suggested that I reinstall the app. I did so and the issue continued. It wasn't until I was actually in the UK, that I could store any destination in any way. I found this disappointing and given that all GPS units have a "Journey Planner" section it seems...slightly ironic that I couldn't plan my journeys.

I didn't have a car that I could put the iPhone up on the dash, so I had it resting in the gap between seats. It worked fine there, but I soon found it was better to reply on the visual indications than on the voice...this is because the voice did (on occasion in small country lanes) just yell out well in advance or for no apparent reason...and early on it simply stopped saying the distance to the next event. This may have been a setting I turned off, but I couldn't find it....so I would get "Turn right" yelled at me for no apparent reason, when "In 500 yards, turn right" would have been better.

Overall the app got me to my locations, but I did find myself missing the TomTom app. I did also find a couple of errors, such as exits on the motorway not matching and I found it hard to understand what it wanted me to do on roundabouts a lot ("go straight through, take the second exit" is an example...when the second exit clearly wasn't going straight through).

For the price it does have some impressive features and if I had off been pulling data off the net, then it would have proved quite useful. I'm not upset with the purchase at all, but I did find myself wishing it had a bit more polish at times.
