Store notes and send email using WritingPad on your iPhone or iPod Touch. WritingPad is a revolutionary text input technology that enables you to enter text by tracing words on the soft keyboard.

WritingPad is a free note and email application available from the App Store for iPod Touch and iPhone. However, you don't type text the normal way that you would expect... Rather than tapping each letter that you want to input, you simply trace each word over the soft keyboard. Each shape traced on the soft keyboard with your finger is recognised as a word. For example, if you were to type the word 'fun', you'd simply place your finger on the 'F' on the keyboard, draw a line across to the 'U', and then down to the 'N'. WritingPad will accurately work out which word you were after. Error correction is fast and easy. For rare names and acronyms, type only once and you will be able to shape write the next time. Shape writing is many times more efficient than letter-based handwriting recognition.If WritingPad doesn't get the word you were after, all you have to do is tap on the other suggestions just above the keyboard.

When I first downloaded this I was a bit sceptical that it would just be a cheap, inaccurate gimmick that would probably not be able to figure out what word I was after... After all, how can it work out a word from a scribble on the keyboard?

However, I was very surprised, as it gets the word you are after almost every time. I don't know how exactly, but it's almost perfect... no matter what the word is. Also, you don't have to go in straight lines to each letter either, you just let your finger fly around the keyboard, and let the app do all the working out. It's also incredibly efficient at typing, which also surprised me quite a bit. I'd say it's almost if not as fast as typing on the standard iPhone keyboard, as long as you know approx. where all the keys are.

I think this is a pretty neat app, especially since it's free. Interface isn't that pretty though.
